About the book

Two years after the war, the smith of the age and the lightning mage who out-argued it ride north together, a household at their backs and a legendary blade on Eamon’s cord singing two of its seven voices. The Forge Monks shattered that blade generations ago because no one could be trusted to hold it whole — and to seal the wound bleeding shadow into the world, Liora and Eamon Ryn have to gather what remains: one voice under a glacier, one beneath a drowned forge behind a door Eamon promised to open when he was seventeen, and the last in the Deadlands, across the Gray, where the assembled ghosts of the Forge Monks stand their post and ask the only question that matters: why should you succeed where we failed?

At the Prime Anvil, the first forge of the world, the Chancellor is already waiting, two cups poured, with the last argument of the age — and the wound is on a clock. To finish what the Monks broke, the family must face every name in their ledger, both columns, and forge not perfection — the lie that started all of this — but something braided, imperfect, and whole.

The Council taught them that broken things are dangerous. They were right.

To forge the world anew, we must become the anvil.
